After two long years of studying and hard work, my MBA finally came to an end. Last Friday afternoon our class (EMBA'08) received the diplomas from the Rotterdam School of Management, granting us the title of Master of Business Administration. The full ceremony took three hours, after which we undertook the Walk of Fame from the World Trade Center to Rotterdam's City Hall. An memorable experience to be amongst the 170 students (full-timers and Executive MBA) that walked outside in full ceremonial dress. At City Hall we were welcomed by mayor Aboutaleb, who congratulated us and wished us all the best in our future careers. See here for the celebration photos. |

Last year I asked some people in the Dutch open source scene if they would be interested to talk about the state of affairs on open source in NL. Reason for this was that I had a feeling that there was no real coherence in all the different stories companies spread around the topic. Almost a year later this action resulted in OSSLO: the Open Source Software Vendor Organization. Last Friday we held Board elections at the Capgemini office. Click here for some photos taken that day. |

The party we threw on the 17th was the start of two weeks of holidays. To start off our life-after-MBA well, Inge and I flew to Jamaica for 9 days. We stayed in a small but cosy hotel in Runaway Bay, north of Jamaica. Although we got some occasional showers, the temperature was around 30 degrees. And the sun was hot enough to burn you even on a cloudy day. We enjoyed every minute of our stay there. For people who have never visited the island, this is a must-go-to! Great country, extremely nice people and beautiful weather. Click here for the footage. |

Recently my brother in law finished his thesis at Wageningen University, allowing him to earn his PhD. Last Friday we went to Wageningen to hear him defend his research on Nutrigenomics: the effect of food on gene expression profiles in human blood cells. After a good defense, Mark was granted his PhD title and we celebrated in a nearby bar. Pictures here. |

After two long years of studying, my MBA is finally done! While this was more than enough reason to throw a party already, there were also still a few birthdays to celebrate. The message of the night was "Hello friends, we're back!!" It was great to be amongst so many friends again, some of whom I hadn't seen in quite a while. And of course it was great to just drink beer and not having to feel guilty I'm not studying ;) Pictures here. |
